We’re on a mission to build a really open-source autonomous mobile robot.

Developers face a cost-capability tradeoff for robotics platforms. Highly capable options like the Turtlebot are expensive, but cheaper options like LEGO robots don’t offer much capability. We recognized that a big chunk of the cost of robots is from sensors and compute, which are already readily available in our mobile phones. Thus, our goal is to build a mobile robotics platform that is:

  • Low-cost (by leveraging the iPhone for sensors + compute)
  • Capable of a variety of autonomous tasks
  • Open-source
  • Extensible/hackable
